- Are you a prospective student exploring opportunities for working in a world-class laboratory at the University of Kentucky?
- Do you have interest in finding a laboratory at UK that would put you in the company of leading experts in experimental solid mechanics? Is receiving a stipend for your lab work important to you?
- Would you like to join the ranks of graduate students of Biomedical, Mechanical, and Aerospace Engineering who have gone on to take faculty positions at top research programs in the U.S., research positions at national laboratories, and development positions in industry?
If the answer to these questions is YES, I am interested in learning more about you. I am Dr. Martha E. Grady, Associate Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kentucky. I am always seeking talented graduate students to join the Grady Lab. Competitive stipends will be offered to selected candidates, who will be expected to pursue a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering at the University of Kentucky.
In the work of the Grady Lab, we apply experimental mechanics to understand failure of thin film interfaces relevant to aerospace, biomedicine, and materials. To learn more about the work we are doing, check out our research or access to our recent publications on google scholar.
The personnel in the Grady Lab are some of the leading experts in experimental solid mechanics. Laboratory activities consist of laser-induced spallation techniques, single particle tracking, shear flow, and atomic force microscopy. We seek students with considerable interest in experimental and hands-on techniques to measure mechanical properties on a wide range of materials from biological agents to additively manufactured metals. Graduates of the program have gone on to take faculty positions at top research programs in the US, research positions at national laboratories, and development positions in industry.
Are you interested? If yes, I would like to hear from you. You can contact me through email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please attach a current resume.
